  Solar Prominence Filters top
Solar Prominence Filters The cost-effective Lumicon Solar Prominence Filter System consists of 2 pieces. The first is the Lumicon S.P.F.Prefilter that blocks all light above red (infra-red, heat) and all light below red (incl. UV A&B). The Lumicon Prefilter is normally bonded to an optional off-axis mask for your Meade or Celestron telescopes, or, if you prefer, to your own homemade mask mounted securely over the front aperture of your telescope. With the Prefilter now mounted over the front of your scope in its mask or holder, only cool, safe red light enters your telescope. The second piece of the Lumicon Solar Prominence Filter System is the narrow-bandpass filter in the main body. This mounts onto the focuser or eyepiece end of your telescope. The Lumicon 1.5 Angstrom bandpass Solar Prominence Filter element is mounted on a tiltable plate in the filter body to allow "tuning" of the filter element in relation to the incoming cool red light, picking out an even smaller 1.5 Ang. sliver of the cool red light centered on the 656.3nm H-alpha line. The contrast gain is such that the sun's prominences become easily visible jutting of the edge of the sun. Brighter filaments and sunspots can also be seen on the surface of the sun. Best used with an f-ratio of f/20 or slower (40 or 50 is best, but even up to f/60) for best contrast. The Lumicon Solar Prominence Filter has a 2" barrel for 2" focusers and can be adapted for 1.25". Also has camera T-threads and a 1.25" eyepiece viewing adapter.

The Lumicon Off-Axis Mask with aperture intended use with the Lumicon Solar Prominence Filter's prefilter.

Lumicon will bond Energy Reject Prefilter on Off-Axis Mask for free if ordered together.

  H-Alpha Pass Filters top
Lumicon Hydrogen Alpha PASS Filter, for Black and White Photography The H-Alpha Pass Filter is not suitable for visual use.

WARNING: DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN THROUGH THE LUMICON H-ALPHA PASS FILTER. Eye Damage could result from infrared light transmitted through this filter. Transmission for this sharp cut-off filter is zero below 630nm, 90% at Hydrogen Alpha 657nm, and 90-98% from 657nm to the near infrared. Both filter surfaces have high-efficiency anti-reflection coatings to boost performance.

For Photography - The Lumicon H-Alpha Pass Filter is a powerful aid in combating light pollution, and will help you achieve strikingly improved results in telephoto lens astrophotography on B&W film. It is ideally matched to hypersensitized 2415 film, and will reduce light pollution 10-fold, making it ideal for photography of faint emission nebulae. To obtain highest relative film speeds, we recommend using any of the Lumicon HYPER-KITS to hypersensitize 2415 or other film.

Recommended Films - Hypersensitized Kodak Technical Pan 2415 is the only recommended film for use with the H-Alpha Pass Filter; do not use Tri-X or any other B&W film.

Filter Factor - Exposures may be increased 2-10 times with the H-Alpha Pass Filter, depending on the faintness of the nebula.
