  Nebular Filters top
The Lumicon Deep-Sky Filter is THE foremost broadband filter efficiently blocking ALL mercury-vapor and high & low pressure sodium-vapor lamp light, neon lights and airglow, while allowing the rest of the visible spectrum through. The superior contrast gain between the black background and the object you're viewing allows you to view galaxies, nebula, star clusters, dusty comets, etc. wonderfully -- when observing from light-polluted urban skies -- making it the best all-around visual light pollution filter. The Lumicon Deep-Sky Filter's high transmission in the H-alpha end of the spectrum makes it THE ONLY premium Astro-photographic filter on the market for not only color photographs, but also for black & white photos and CCD work. Lumicon tests every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double-Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for each of the primary spectral lines.

The Original Lumicon Ultra-High Contrast narrow bandpass filter (24nm) isolates just the two doubly-ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm lines) and H-Beta line (486nm) emitted by emission and planetary nebulae, while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black background and the delicate photons of nebula light needed for near-photographic views of the Orion, Lagoon, Swan and planetary nebulae, among others. This makes the Lumicon UHC Filter the best all-around nebular filter on the market today. See for yourself -- it's truly amazing what the Lumicon UHC filter allows you to see! Lumicon tests every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for each of the primary lines. Not intended for photographic use.
The renowned, original Lumicon OIII narrow bandpass filter (11nm) isolates just the two doubly-ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm lines) emitted by planetary and emission nebulae, while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black background of space and the delicate photons of OIII light needed for near-photographic views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell and Orion nebulae, among other objects. See for yourself -- it's truly amazing what the OIII filter allows you to see! Lumicon tests every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double-Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for each of the primary lines. Not intended for photography (use the Lumicon Deep Sky Filter).
The Lumicon H-Beta Filter isolates only the Hydrogen-beta line of the spectrum (486.5nm) while blocking, completely, the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black background and the delicately attenuated H-beta light needed to view a few select, extremely faint objects such as the Horsehead, Cocoon and California Nebulae. In may cases the Lumicon H-beta Filter is the ONLY way to view those objects. A steady, transparent sky, 8" or larger aperture (in most cases) and a maximum-efficiency exit pupil (7mm), combined with the Lumicon H-beta Filter, all make an unbeatable combination for viewing those "notch in the belt" objects. Lumicon measures every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double-Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for the primary H-beta Line. Not intended for photographic use.

  H-Alpha Pass Filters top
Lumicon Hydrogen Alpha PASS Filter, for Black and White Photography The H-Alpha Pass Filter is not suitable for visual use.

WARNING: DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN THROUGH THE LUMICON H-ALPHA PASS FILTER. Eye Damage could result from infrared light transmitted through this filter. Transmission for this sharp cut-off filter is zero below 630nm, 90% at Hydrogen Alpha 657nm, and 90-98% from 657nm to the near infrared. Both filter surfaces have high-efficiency anti-reflection coatings to boost performance.

For Photography - The Lumicon H-Alpha Pass Filter is a powerful aid in combating light pollution, and will help you achieve strikingly improved results in telephoto lens astrophotography on B&W film. It is ideally matched to hypersensitized 2415 film, and will reduce light pollution 10-fold, making it ideal for photography of faint emission nebulae. To obtain highest relative film speeds, we recommend using any of the Lumicon HYPER-KITS to hypersensitize 2415 or other film.

Recommended Films - Hypersensitized Kodak Technical Pan 2415 is the only recommended film for use with the H-Alpha Pass Filter; do not use Tri-X or any other B&W film.

Filter Factor - Exposures may be increased 2-10 times with the H-Alpha Pass Filter, depending on the faintness of the nebula.

  Comet Filters top
The Lumicon Comet Band narrow visible bandpass cometary filter (25nm) isolates just the 501nm OIII and the 514nm Cyanogen lines. The high-contrast gain of the filter reveals the delicate ionized tail of gaseous comets which normally can be very difficult to spot with dusty comets. The Lumicon Comet Band filter also allows you to see the full extent of the ion tail. The Comet Band filter helps you to better discern between gaseous comets, which the Comet Band filter greatly helps, and dusty comets which show little contrast gain. For dusty comets, use the Lumicon Deep Sky filter.

Howard Brewington, famed comet discoverer says: "I discovered Comet Aarseth-Brewinton, 1989a1, using the Lumicon Comet Band Filter. The filter doubled the contrast, making the comet very easy to spot." Be the person to discover the next "Comet of the Century" using the Lumicon Comet Band Comet Filter.

Not intended for photography (use the Lumicon Deep Sky Filter).

Minus Violet Filter for color or B&W photography top
The Lumicon Minus Violet Filter greatly improves photographs taken through lenses of any type. This filter is made from optically flat specially-made colored glass, and has anti-reflection coatings on both surfaces. It is especially recommended for all telephoto lenses, and will help you obtain pinpoint star images. The Minus Violet filter passes the maximum amount of visible light, including the full blue, green, yellow, and red portions of the spectrum. It absorbs violet and ultraviolet light below 420nm and thus eliminates blue halos around bright stars in color photography. In B&W photography it eliminates bloated and swollen star images caused by violet and ultraviolet light which telephoto lenses cannot focus, due to chromatic aberration. The Minus Violet filter slightly reduces light pollution.

Recommended Films - All films can be used with the Minus Violet Filter; hypersensitized 2415 is the recommended B&W film

Filter Factor - Increase exposure by only about 10% for the Minus Violet Filter.

For Viewing - The Minus Violet Filter can eliminate or greatly reduce the blue halo sometimes seen around stars in refracting telescopes. It is ideal for observing the moon and planets.
